Focus on transition-cow management

Correct nutritional management of the transition cow is critical for improving milk production in the following lactation and minimising the risk of metabolic problems and maximising calf health.

The transition period can be broken down into key stages and each one has its own specific nutrient requirements that help to improve health and performance. This spring sees the launch of ForFarmers’ TRANSLAC nutrition programme, designed to provide key nutrients for each stage via specialist compound feeds, farm packs and minerals.

By focusing on key areas of transition cow nutrition significant performance improvements and cost savings can be made. This could realise more than £11,000 or 1.5 ppl per 100 cows. The programme is designed to improve performance by giving the cow and calf the best possible start.
