Examining the changing dairy horizon at the South Wales Dairy Conference

The South Wales Dairy Conference, organised by ForFarmers, HSBC and CARA is being held on 7th February at the Nant-Y-Ffin Hotel, Llandissilio, Pembrokshire. The theme of the conference is ‘the changing dairy horizon’ and the event brings together technical experts and farmers from across the industry and beyond.

The conference opens with Regional Agricultural Manager at HSBC Euryn Jones, setting the scene for the discussion ahead. Mark Berrisford-Smith, Head of Economics for HSBC’s commercial banking will then give insight and context into the economic challenges ahead for the industry. Tom Rawson, co-founder of Evolution Farming, which today milks 1,000 cows over three sites and has a successful farm consultancy business will speak about the development of a dairy business.

After lunch industry commentator Ian Potter will talk about where the UK dairy market is heading. Andrew Freemantle, a pig farmer marketing approximately 140 pigs per week, a third of which go to the business’ own farm shop, catering and wholesale businesses, will talk about success in the pig industry via diversification and what the dairy industry can learn from it.
