FibroFX is one of six unique nutritional innovations which have been specifically developed by our Nutritional Innovation Centre to provide sows with optimal nutritional support at all stages of their reproductive lifetime.

Dietary fibre, which is included in FibroFX, and has been developed to have a positive influence on satiety in gestation diets and on feed intake in lactation diets.

How does FibroFX work in Gestation?

Gestation feed is routinely restricted and as a result a high motivation for feeding after their daily allowance has been consumed. Pigs are capable of utilizing dietary fiber to a reasonable extent and the contribution of dietary fiber to the energy supply increases in more mature animals, especially in breeding sows. Dietary fiber can be used in feeding strategies or pregnant sows, allowing for larger meal sizes without increasing dietary energy content.

How does FibroFX work in Lactation?

For lactating sows it is important to improve feed intake to help support milk production and prevent extensive body weight loss.

Feed intake in lactating sows can be increased by using one of ForFarmers’ lactation diets. Feed intake is also influenced by a number of factors:

  • Genetics
  • Litter size
  • Daily litter weight gain
  • Management
  • Environment

Feeding the NOVA lactation diet can increase feed intake further by helping to support milk production and prevent extensive body weight loss.

The benefits of a high fibre diet for your sows

  • Positive impact on behavioral activities like restlessness, aggression and feeding behavior.
  • Positive effect on faeces quality and therefore reducing the occurrence of constipation.
  • Increased calmness has been shown to have a positive effect on embryonic survival.
  • Reduced occurrence or aggression in group housing systems reduces the risk of injuries to the skeleton and hooves.

Overall, diet composition positively affects behavior can be improved by providing energy during pregnancy.

The benefits for your business

  • Reducing the occurrence of constipation at parturition has a positive effect on the birth process which results in improved piglet vitality and reduced number of stillborn piglets.
  • Body weight loss in lactation and the rebreed interval are reduced and piglet health and weight gains are increased by increased milk yield.
