As one of ForFarmers core values, Sustainability continues to be at the top of our agenda, and engaging with the industry to continue dialogue about sustainability and efficiency for the future of farming is a key strategic focus.

The Seminar, which attracted 60 BFREPA sustainability sponsors and stakeholders from the British Free Range Egg supply chain, had a full agenda which aimed to inform the Free Range egg industry on the progress of key trends in the industry, including the retailers committing to supplying cage free eggs by 2025 and the debate around multi-tier and single deck systems.

Jason Gittins from ADAS presented research results from retailer interviews and market balance research with the aim of being ‘cage free by 2025’. Dr Vicky Sandilands from SRUC continued by presenting the progress on a 3 year study to compare the welfare and economics of both multi-tier and flat deck housing systems. Ben Pike, Eve Communications completed the programme by giving an interesting guide to mitigating and overcoming the challenge posed by the media to current production systems.

Adam Henson, Lloyds Farming Ambassador and previous speaker at the BFREPA Annual Conference which is hosted by ForFarmers, hosted the Seminar at his famous Park Farm and attended throughout. To complete the day, Adam Henson took the delegates on a personal tour of his farm.
