The Scottish Egg Quality Awards are run in partnership by leading feed manufacturer ForFarmers and the Scottish Rural University College (SRUC) and celebrates the best of the Scottish egg Industry. Despite the unfortunate cancellation of the awards themselves due to COVID-19, there is still one award which the team are delighted to be able to continue with: The 2020 ‘John Cessford SEQA Young Person of the Year Award’.

Iain Campbell, ForFarmers Key Account Manager comments: “The aim of the award is to recognise the stars of our egg industry; those young people who are already making a significant contribution in shaping and building the Scottish egg industry. We want to shine a light on these individuals and give them the recognition they deserve.”

The award is open to anyone who is employed in a Scottish registered egg production or marketing business with a role in egg quality and is under the age of 30.

Entries will be reviewed by a panel of representatives from across the egg industry including Sir John Campbell, John Retson and Robert Chapman. Along with the trophy, the worthy winner will also receive a free hotel stay and £250 of vouchers.

Last year’s worthy winner was 21 year old Claire Strathern. Claire is an inspiration to all young people, growing her business ‘Egglicious Eggs” from 10 hens she received for her 15th birthday, to a flock now of 16,000 hens. Claire is responsible for all the day to day running of ‘Eggilicious Eggs’ including successfully marketing her business. Alongside this, Claire still finds the time to give back to the community, giving talks to school children, inviting disabled children to visit her farm as well as taking many Veterinary Medicine students from Edinburgh Vet School every year for a one week placement.

If you would like to apply or nominate someone please see the entry form for more details. The closing date for entries is Thursday 30th of April. Good luck!
