My family milk a herd of 280 Holsteins in Long Sutton, Somerset. I joined ForFarmers in 2014 and during the first year I spent time learning about all the different areas and departments that are within ForFarmers. I then took on the role of youngstock specialist, as I’ve always had a particular interest in this area. I am now National Youngstock Product Manager, working closely with the youngstock team to deliver great products and services to the marketplace.
Alongside breeding Hereford and Belgian Blue cattle on my family's small holding, I managed a successful teaching career! Whilst this was incredibly rewarding, I wanted to focus more on my presence within the agricultural industry, so I put down the whiteboard pens and picked up my wellies and joined a beef calf rearing unit to gain more of an insight into the youngstock sector.
I have joined the youngstock team at ForFarmers as a technician, so I'll be spending most of my time on farm, getting to know farmers and their stock and providing guidance on how to better achieve targets and get the best from the herd.
I have a true passion for the breeding and development of cattle so I'm really excited to be starting my journey with ForFarmers and developing my knowledge even further.
Following my completion of my diploma at Cannington college in May 2024, I strived to progress with my love and understanding of Youngstock within the dairy sector. I have not come from a farming background, although I fortunately ended up within a career that I am passionate about. My role as Youngstock technician for the South and South West will allow me to support farmers across the region, and contribute to their business by expressing the importance of early growth rates to achieve target calving age, whilst helping herd performance.
Born into agriculture and growing up on a small family farm near York, I developed a keen interest for farming. After attending Harper Adams University I worked on a number of different calf rearing units, both beef and dairy. Whilst working on a dairy unit in South Wales I was introduced to the ForFarmers calf monitoring process which I found very interesting and helpful, so I am thrilled to have joined the Youngstock team here at ForFarmers. I’m looking forward to working with farmers to help make their calf rearing system as productive and profitable as possible.
I was brought up on a family farm in West Wales. I started with ForFarmers as the Youngstock Specialist for Wales over seven years ago. Currently I am the Field Sales Manager for the Medium and Large Dairy sales team, operating mainly out of Carmarthen feed mill. I still maintain the responsibility for the Youngstock within Wales, supporting farmers and the Account Managers operating within this region, having specialist experience in young animal nutrition for over 25 years. Maximising early growth rates in youngstock is paramount to achieving a profitable enterprise. ForFarmers’ complete youngstock range gives me the flexibility to select the optimum solution for each individual customer’s on farm challenges. As a result, customers are able to achieve their desired results within their systems, efficiently and cost effectively.
