The prestigious National Pig Awards 2022 took place earlier this week in London. The exclusive annual awards, dedicated to the pig industry highlighted once again the breadth and depth of talent, drive, and ambition in the pig sector.
This year’s awards recognised and rewarded excellence across the industry, declaring 13 winners on the night.
As principal sponsor of the events ForFarmers’ had the privilege of announcing the winners for ‘Indoor Producer of the Year’ and ‘Outdoor Producer of the Year’ as well as the coveted grand finale- overall ‘Producer of the Year’.
‘Indoor & Overall Producer of the Year’ - Katesbridge Farm – JMW Farms
The Katesbridge Farm, in Northern Ireland, was awarded ‘Indoor & Overall Producer of the year’. A breeding site consisting of F1 sows and gilts, which delivered, exceptional performance figures, topping 36 pigs weaned per sow per year.
‘Outdoor Producer of the Year’ - GSK Pigs – Risby Unit
GSK was crowned ‘Outdoor Producer of the year’, the company has invested heavily to reduce its carbon footprint, including a greening programme across its farms and in lowering vehicle emissions, as well as delivering excellent performance figures across its units. All whilst in the process of converting all units to five-week weaning, a system which has resulted in healthier and heavier finishing pigs.
